At that time, silver coins like the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf were dominant in the bullion market. But the modern techniques used to mint the pieces combined with beautiful designs made Silver Libertads a desirable item to any investment portfolio. Coin Highlights Contains 1 oz of .999 pure silver; Issued by the Mexican Mint, one of the most traditional mints worldwide; Devoid of denomination but guaranteed by the Central Bank of Mexico; The obverse features the Winged Victory; The reverse displays the Mexican Coat of Arms. The History of the Silver Libertad Issued for the first time in 1982, the coinage of the Silver Libertads happened as an extension of its gold version, the Gold Libertad, released the year before. But besides the traditional one troy ounce, the Silver Libertad came along with some fractional sizes, opening the market to more options of silver coins. The Design of the Coin The obverse design features the Winged Victory, the Roman Goddess of victory, which became a beautiful statue in Mexico City. On this side of the coin, the inscriptions “1 ONZA PLATA PURA” and “LEY .999” indicate the weight, metal content, purity, and the year of issuance. The reverse features the Mexican Coat of Arms in the center and surrounding it, other ten versions of the same symbol, depicted over the years, in a circular form. On the side, the inscription reads the words: “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.”
