Description

Just $49 Over Melt Per Coin! The Austrian 8 Florin Gold is literally a piece of one of the greatest empires of the 19th century, the Austro-Hungarian Empire. When the empire decided to adopt the gold standard, it is only natural that they honor their emperor, Franz Joseph I, on the obverse. These coins were issued from 1870 to 1891. They were then restruck in 1892 with that year of issue at the bottom.

Key features:
Contains .1867 Troy oz of actual gold content
Available from 1870-1891
Face value of 8 Florin/20 Francs issued by Austria-Hungary
On the obverse side of the coin has the image of Franz Joseph I
The reverse side has the Austrian Coat of Arms

The 20 Franc coin was the most popular denomination in France during the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte. Because the Austro-Hungarian Empire encompassed large swatches of land in Central and South Europe, the decision was made to make a 20 Franc coin that also was an 8 Florin coin. This way the coin could be used within the borders of Austria-Hungary borders and outside its borders.

The reverse side of the coin has the Austrian Coat of Arms over a double-headed eagle. At the top is ‘IMPERIVM AVSTRIACVM’.  At the bottom is ‘8 Fl’’ and ‘20 Fr’ and the year of issue. This coin has a dual denomination of eight florin and twenty francs.

This coin is a restrike of the originals from the Austrian mint of the coin marked 1892. In that year they restruck the popular design one last time with that year’s date on it.

The Austrian 20 Franc /8 Florin coin is not only a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire but has a dual denomination which is pretty unusual. This would be a great addition to your collection. Get yours today.
