La Casa de Moneda de Mexico, often known as the Mexican Mint, produces the Mexican Silver Libertads. It was founded in 1535 and is the oldest mint on the North American continent. Although the mint is 486 years old, the Mexican Libertad was not issued until 1982, making 2021 the 40th year of release. As the years have passed, the coin continues to grow in popularity for its uniqueness and beautiful design.  The Design This Silver Libertad coin has 5 troy ounces of 0.999 pure silver, making it the largest coin in the series. The Mexican Central Bank ensures the purity and weight of their silver (Banco de Mexico).   The reverses of these coins feature a beautiful depiction of the Winged Victoria. Her name means “Mexican Angel of Independence.” Her robes billow about her as she throws her arms forth and spreads her wings in this lovely image. The two famous volcanoes of Mexico, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl are also featured in the background of this rendering.   The obverse face features the current national Mexican Coat of Arms, encircled by the ten previous national Coats of arms representing the country in the past.
