The bullion version is the leading coin in the American Silver Eagle Series.  Silver Eagle coins are .999 fine silver, which make them much more valuable than their 1 dollar face value. They are pure silver bullion, which is worth at least their 1 oz weight in silver spot price.   2011 Silver Eagle Highlights: 1 troy ounce of .999 pure silver; Eligible for IRAs; 2011 is the 25th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle edition; Face value of $1, guaranteed by the US Government; Obverse design: The Walking Liberty, by Adolph A. Weinman; Reverse design: The famous Heraldic Eagle, by John M. Mercati The 2011 Silver Eagle Design The American Silver Eagle design is considered one of the most beautiful coins ever minted in the US and it displays two of the most important symbols of American coinage history: the Lady Liberty and the heraldic eagle. Silver Eagle Obverse Design The obverse features the famous “Walking Liberty”, originally created by Adolph A. Weinman, in 1916. This design was first idealized to the 1916 US half dollar coin and used until 1947. It depicts Lady Liberty beautifully walking towards the sun, as she wears the American flag over her shoulder. Her right arm is open, as a welcome sign to those coming to a new beginning in the American lands. And her left arm carries a branch of laurel and oak as a sign of pride. Behind her, it reads: “Liberty”. On the bottom, the year 2011 and the words “In God we trust” are displayed. Silver Eagle Reverse Design The reverse is a creation of the US Mint engraver John M. Mercati. It features the classic heraldic eagle, which is a symbol of freedom. The eagle appears behind the US national shield, holding a banner in its beak, with the words “E pluribus unum” and in its talons, olive branch and arrows, as a sign of prestige and strength. Above the heraldic eagle, in a triangular formation, thirteen five-pointed stars represent the Thirteen Colonies. The words: “United States of America”, “ 1 oz fine silver” and “One dollar” sorround the coin’s edges. The Silver Eagles Mintage The US Mint produced 40,020,000  units of 2011 American Silver Eagles to meet the market demand, because it became the top selling bullion coin in the country. But the history of the Silver Eagle coins started much before, 25 years before, to be precise. As 2011 is the 25th anniversary of the Silver Eagle series, the most important American Mints were required to produce these coins and some even produced special editions. The 40,020,000 units of BU coins were produced in West Point and San Francisco. The West Point Mint also coined Burnished and Proof silver coins. Besides the bullion ones, San Francisco made burnished coins with the “S” mint mark. And Philadelphia produced the Reverse Proof Silver Eagle commemorative edition. 2011 Silver Eagles for Sale You can order  2011 American Silver Eagles for the lowest premiums over the silver spot price at SD Bullion’s website or call one of our professional bullion dealers at 1-800-294-8732.
